Placer Lane

PLACER LANE

The property is a peninsula, bordered on three sides by roadway activity, but its position is not apparent from the interior.  Vertical wood soundproof fencing plays off the cadence of the prominent architectural shade screen as it erases from view the entry lane and adjacent roadways.  Lighting is carefully integrated into the narrow dimension of the fence so that the impression of its rhythm is uninterrupted.

Within this protective shell, broad planes of hardscape and fields of native grass open the outdoor living spaces to the sky.  At the architectural entry, staggered walls define sequential linear gardens of aspen trees and dogwood shrubs that offer a verdant backdrop to the courtyard warming hearth.  A second small garden conceals a bedroom terrace from view and creates a canopy for the meditation pool.  And a third garden pocket inserted at the sun deck opposite the entry gracefully separates entertaining spaces.  A pool stretches along the southern edge of the lounge and dining areas, offering a welcome respite from the late afternoon heat or a spot to enjoy a light snowfall mid-winter.  A long concrete bench reaches across the deck, from fire feature to the edge of this pool, visually terminating at the jewel of the property—its view Ajax and to the Elk Mountain range beyond.
